1. ESL Lesson Plan 1
Grade Level
ESL for 6th grade intermediate ESL learners
Objectives:
Students will learn:
1) to use a group of high frequency words and their synonyms
2) to build up social skills by cooperating with their team members, and presenting the teamwork to the class.
1) Strategies: collaborative leaning; Multiple Intelligence theory – music intelligence
Final Word list (see attached)
2) Graphic organizer (see attached)
3) English dictionaries,
4) CD player and a CD of well-known music tunes (for example, Old-McDonald had a farm)
1) Divide students into three-member groups
2) Teacher gives group work directions; explains the directions, and demonstrates how to find out synonyms; and writes sample sentences using the synonyms.
3) Distribute the word list and worksheet to each group.
4) Distribute dictionaries to each group.
5) Each person first works individually to find out the synonyms from the dictionary, and writes down two sentences about himself/herself.
6) Then group members talk to one another and find out things about their partners in their daily lives, and then write a few sentences about their partners using the synonyms (the statement must be true).
7) The group picks synonyms and sentences from each member; work out a group sheet.
8) The teacher plays a few well-known tunes to the class.
9) Each group works out a song using the synonyms and sentences that follows the tune of the song.
10) Each group presents the group work to the class, and performs the song for the class.
Motivation:
Teacher describes his/her daily life by using different words and their synonyms. Ask students to think about describing themselves and their team members by using some words and the synonyms.
Assessment:
1) Does every member in the group participate in the individual work?
2) Does a group leader emerge during the group discussion?
3) What strategies does each group use?
4) Have members learned from one another about their lives and about the use of some new synonyms?

2. ESL Lesson Plan2
Objectives:
Students will learn some high-frequency words; learn to read a literary work – a poem – and comprehend it; learn basic sentence patterns; and practice speaking.
Grade Level:
2nd or 3rd grade beginner ESL students.
Class Duration:
45 minutes
Strategies or Techniques and Materials Needed:
Shared reading; Word wall; visual aids; graphic organizers – KWL chart; laptop and projector
Procedures:
2. lecture and shared reading
1) Ask students to read the poem.
2) ask students to fill up the KWL chart with K (unknown words that they found in the poem), and W (anything that they wanted to know about the poem).
3) the teacher read aloud alone.
4) While reading, walked around and pointed to the lines, making sure the students are looking at the right lines.
5) Pair students up, let them read to each other.
6) Mini-lesson to teach new words; make Word Wall: poem, title, author, baby, perfect, skin, soft, shiny, dark, brown, black, curl, uptight, chew, toe, dimple.
7) Visualize the poem: let students draw a picture of the baby brother based on what they have read.
8) ask students to complete the KWL chart with what they have learned (including the new words, sentences and the meaning of the entire poem).

South Pole. It is the coldest continent.

continent.

3. ESL Unit Plan
Objectives:
1) students will learn the names
of seven continents in the world, the vocabulary for -the
major countries, languages, people, culture, weather, animals, and industry in
the seven continents.
2) They will
also learn the phrases and sentences to describe the seven continents

both present, past and future tense, and superlative form in their descriptions.
Grade Level:
4th grade ESL
students.
Strategies or Techniques and Materials Needed:
Online learning software:
www.Quizlet.com; World map; article titled “The Seven Continents”; KWHL chart; informative
books about different countries; laptop and projector
Lesson 1:
1) learn
vocabulary and basic facts about the seven continents.
2) The
activities include warm-up questions (see attachment)
3) Reading
an article on PowerPoint slides; discuss the facts in the article, andanswer
comprehension questions after the reading.
4) Study
verb tenses (present, past and future tense),
5) Study
superlative form in sentence patterns “there are…” “the largest … is… / the
smallest … is… / the coldest … is…”

students will read books about different continents and countries
independently,

facts from the books about some particular countries concerning the people,
weather, cultures in the seven continents, make comparisons among them, and
turn the comparisons into words.
Lesson 3:
the students will
write an essay about their native countries and cultures and their personal
life experiences in those countries. They will be encouraged to use the
sentences and phrases that they learned in the previous two lessons.
